breakfast Unique hotel

After a good night sleep and an eggfull breakfast at the Unique Hotel (in the very inspiring breakfast “ballroom”) we are finally going to do what Mia is coming for: shopping at the Primark! The Primark in Dortmund is located in a huge shoppingmall, just across the road. I promiss Mia I will not be distracted by some cranes or streetartistry… we go straight to that shopping walhalla.

Believe it or not… we only “work” for outfits for Mia!! ( aside some basic shirts for me). Mia happy, Bonnie happy 😉

Time to get Coffee & “Kucher” at Starbucks, writing down some oldschool postcards and catching up wifi-time.

The weather is fantastic. First day without a coat! After a morning in the mall I decide it is time to look for some Dormunter culture in the fresh Ruhrgebiet air. Let’s visit the harbour and watch some giantic cargo ships unloading. I don’t know, maybe I took the wrong way, but we didn’t spot a single ship in this harbour. A lot of containers, yes…

No worries, while driving we come along this sign. Is this especially made up for us?!? Hit the gas and go spot some of those industrial beauties!!!

Dortmund route industry kultur

I’m so excited. We are making a game of spotting the brown “route Industriekultur” road signs. I have to do my upmost to get Mia enthusiastic too. But ofcourse I can’t expect a “yeah mummy I love to go to three museums with you today”…

Dortmund Industriekultur tour

First we go to Zeche Zollern. I have read about that museum. It was on my list for Tuesday but hey, why not change that schedule? It seems there is not much traffic near the museum, isn’t this a popular thing to do? We are about to find out that… well, this photo speaks for itself. The other picture is taken through the grille.

Baby it’s cold outside

This is a minor thing. The sun is shining bright and we still don’t have to wear our coats. Lets hit the road to the next industrial hotspot: Kokerei Hansa! We arrive 30 minutes later and I am completely over the top to see the fantastic rusty and partly dismantled factory objects! Finally there is some rusty metal action within our hands. But then… there is that note at the gate: “due to enormous remediation (bodemsanering) we are not open untill spring 2014”. Industrial beauties… yeah right.

Mia is getting happier and I’m gritting my teeth behind the steering wheel. To hell with that #$% route, I can find my own treasures. Ha you should see me “speedparking”, taking U-turns, jumping wildly out of the car, hitting the picturebutton on my iPhone. Mia played along and after all we had a great time.

At the end of the day I can’t help having a slightly unsatisfying feeling. So let’s eat! 😉
